About the role

A Data Scientist at Equals Group can transform raw data into actionable insights using a variety of data science and advanced analytics techniques.  These include statistical analysis, optimisation and machine learning.  They are skilled at uncovering patterns, trends, and opportunities within data and delivering tailored, data-driven solutions to our internal stakeholders. 

They are proficient in programming languages like SQL and Python, data visualisation tools, and expertise in AWS (or similar cloud technologies).  They are business-focused and intellectually curious, with a knack for choosing the right technique for each problem.

A successful Data Scientist excels at working both collaboratively within cross-functional teams and autonomously, taking initiative to define problems, develop solutions, and deliver results with minimal supervision.  Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and a proactive approach ensure they can independently drive projects from inception to implementation.

About you

Responsibilities 

  • Spearhead the use of Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning and AI in the Data team at Equals

  • Collaborate with our Product and Engineering teams to deliver Group strategic AI projects

  • Work with our Data Analysts on a variety of projects, and proactively identify opportunities to leverage Data Science and Machine Learning techniques

Accountabilities

  • Help to shape the roadmap of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI at Equals

  • Build relationships with other teams at Equals and promote the value of Data Science

  • Work with the team to define the Machine Learning lifecycle for internally developed models, including documentation standards and Governance requirements

  • Identify use-cases for Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning techniques to bring data to life for our internal and external stakeholders

Essential Skills

  • Deep understanding of statistical modelling, experimental design, and inference

  • Advanced proficiency in Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow)

  • Proven experience developing, deploying, and optimising machine learning models at scale

  • Strong command of AWS (SageMaker, Lambda, Bedrock) and Snowflake ML for end-to-end ML workflows

  • Expert-level SQL and data manipulation across large, complex datasets

  • Proficient in data engineering fundamentals - building pipelines, working with APIs, and integrating multiple data sources

  • Skilled in data visualisation and communicating model outputs to stakeholders

  • Comfortable with MLOps practices, including containerisation, CI/CD and monitoring

  • Solid understanding of Git, code review, and production-quality development

  • Collaborative mindset with clear, pragmatic communication across teams

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex

  • Exposure to causal inference, uplift modelling, and advanced experimentation methods

  • Working knowledge of data governance, privacy, and model ethics (e.g. GDPR compliance)

  • Industry experience in fintech or another highly regulated domain
