Job description

About Equals Railsr

In May 2025, Equals Money and Railsr, two established fintech innovators with complementary strengths, came together. This strategic merger unites Equals’ proven expertise in currency and payments with Railsr’s powerful embedded finance and card-issuing technology. Together, we’ve created a next-generation financial services platform with the scale, infrastructure, and agility to serve customers across industries and borders.

Backed by regulated infrastructure and advanced payments technology, we’re delivering seamless, scalable solutions with the personal service and trusted experience our customers rely on

Digital transformation is a core pillar of our strategy. We are rebuilding internal platforms, automating manual processes, and integrating systems across Finance, Compliance, Operations, HR, and Commercial to create a scalable, resilient, and AI-ready operating model.

The Opportunity

As Engineering Lead for Digital Transformation, you will play a critical role in delivering this transformation agenda. This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role focused on integration, automation, and platform enablement rather than customer-facing product features.

You will lead technical execution across multiple transformation initiatives, ensuring that new tools, vendors, and internal platforms are integrated cleanly into our core architecture. The role is AWS-centric, with a strong emphasis on APIs, event-driven systems, and scalable integration patterns.

Working closely with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and central engineering teams, you will ensure that transformation delivery aligns with long-term technology strategy, security, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Own the technical delivery of digital transformation initiatives across Finance, HR, Compliance, Operations, and Commercial.

  • Provide hands-on leadership across integration, automation, and platform work, setting clear technical direction and standards.

  • Design and oversee API-first and event-driven architectures that enable scalable, loosely coupled systems.

  • Ensure all transformation solutions align with core platform principles, security requirements, and regulatory obligations.

Integration & Platform Engineering

  • Lead the integration of third-party SaaS tools and vendors into the Equals Railsr ecosystem using robust APIs, messaging, and event streams.

  • Drive adoption of event-driven patterns to reduce coupling, improve observability, and accelerate change.

  • Own integration standards, including API design, versioning, authentication, error handling, and monitoring.

  • Partner with data and platform teams to ensure consistent data ownership, governance, and interoperability across systems.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor transformation-aligned developers, setting a high bar for quality and delivery.

  • Work closely with Product Managers embedded in Digital Transformation teams to translate business problems into robust technical solutions.

  • Collaborate with central platform, security, and data teams to ensure alignment and avoid siloed delivery.

  • Act as a senior technical partner to stakeholders across the business, helping them understand trade-offs, constraints, and opportunities.

Quality, Risk & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure transformation delivery reduces operational risk by removing manual processes and strengthening controls.

  • Embed observability, logging, and monitoring into all integrations and workflows.

  • Continuously improve engineering practices, tooling, and patterns as transformation scales across the organisation.

About You

You are an experienced engineering leader who thrives in complex, evolving environments. You are comfortable operating across complex systems, new platforms, third-party vendors, and internal teams, bringing structure and clarity where there is ambiguity. You are motivated by building strong foundations: clean integrations, scalable platforms, and systems that make the organisation faster, safer, and easier to run.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading engineering delivery for internal platforms, integrations, or digital transformation initiatives.

  • Strong background in API design and integration, including RESTful services, authentication, and versioning strategies.

  • Experience of Node.JS

  • Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures, serverless, and messaging systems.

  • Deep experience working in AWS-centric environments and modern cloud-native architectures.

  • Track record of integrating third-party SaaS platforms into regulated or complex environments.

  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements including security, resilience, auditability, and compliance.

  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills, able to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to non-technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience working in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.

  • Experience supporting finance operations automation, compliance workflows, onboarding, or customer operations platforms.

  • Exposure to data platforms and event-driven data integration patterns.

  • Familiarity with low-code or workflow automation platforms and their integration challenges/super powers.

  • Experience in post-merger system integration or operating model consolidation.

Why Equals Railsr

  • A rare opportunity to shape the technical foundations of a large-scale digital transformation programme.

  • High-impact role with visibility across technology and senior business leadership.

  • Collaborative culture that values pragmatism, ownership, and engineering excellence.

  • Competitive salary and benefits, hybrid working, and the chance to build systems that materially change how the business operates.
